The story behind The Brandr Group

The Brandr Group's (TBG) origins lie in a passion for collegiate sports, belief in the power of group rights, and a commitment to innovation.

Wesley Haynes, the founder and CEO of TBG, played linebacker at Davidson College and Georgia Tech. And he’s not alone. Currently, 11 members of The Brandr Group were collegiate student-athletes. That kind of first-hand experience supports our development of services and advocacy for the student-athlete.

Upon graduation from Georgia Tech, Wesley worked for Russell Athletic and built out apparel offerings for some of the great American brands of sports uniforms including NCAA, NFL and MLB teams. Wesley went on to work with IMG and the PGA TOUR, continuing to build upon his expertise and wide recognition as a leader in the sports space and of Group Rights.

In late 2014, Wesley founded TBG to work with the NFLPA, NBPA, MLBPA and more, representing their collegiate NIL group rights for college. During a presentation of opportunities, a client expressed special interest in an idea for representing professional athletes in their collegiate jerseys – and the groundwork for NIL group rights as we know it was born.

We started with The University of North Carolina, representing UNC alumni student-athletes. When the Supreme Court ruled to allow compensation for NIL, universities across America chose The Brandr Group to advocate for Fair Market Value and new opportunities for their student-athletes. We are honored to do so!

Today, TBG holds the largest set of Group Rights in collegiate athletics. Over just two short, and exhilarating years, we’ve developed over 70 licensees for merchandise and apparel, created a Content Licensing Platform for archived content footage, activated athletes for major brands like Taco Bell and Wrangler, and in 2023 alone athletes will make millions of dollars through the Group Rights TBG has created – and we are literally just getting started!
